Meet Lorne – Founder of Angling Artifacts
Growing up in the beachside community of Pacific Palisades, California, Lorne spent his early years spin cast fishing off local piers. Living just steps from the ocean, saltwater fishing became second nature. But it was during his childhood summers at camp—exploring lakes, rivers, and streams—that his love for fishing truly began to expand. Eager to experience new landscapes, Lorne later left the coast behind and headed north to attend the University of Oregon in Eugene. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, he was introduced to the art of fly fishing—a discovery that would shape both his personal and professional journey. In college, Lorne became captivated by the unique tools, gear, and history of angling. What started as a fascination soon grew into a lifelong passion for collecting antique and vintage fishing tackle. Over time, he developed a deep appreciation for both freshwater and saltwater fishing, along with the artistry and craftsmanship behind the equipment itself. That passion became Angling Artifacts—a celebration of fishing's rich history and an ever-growing collection of rare, antique, and collectible angling treasures.

Lorne never outgrew his childhood fascination with reels, creels, rods, lures, bait tins, artwork, books, magazines—really, anything related to the world of angling. He thrives on the treasure hunt, often spending countless hours searching for that one-of-a-kind piece that makes him say, "I’ve got to have it—it’s so unique!" Equally rewarding are the friendships he’s built over the years with fellow collectors and enthusiasts. Through his involvement in various angling clubs and collector organizations, Lorne has connected with a vibrant community of people who share his passion for fishing history and collectibles.  Equally enjoyable are the many angling collector friends he has made through club affiliations such as the "National Fishing Lure Collectors Club (NFLCC)", "Fly Fishers International (FFI)", "Old Reel Collectors Club (ORCA)", "Trout Unlimited (TU)", etc.

A Team Effort
Angling Artifacts is the result of a true partnership between husband and wife team, Lorne and Yuriko Hirsch. By combining their unique talents and shared passion, they’ve built one of the most respected antique fishing tackle companies—both at trade shows and online. Their collaboration is hands-on and heart-driven. Most evenings (unless they're traveling, at shows, or out treasure hunting), you'll find Lorne and Yuriko side by side at their computers, immersed in the details that bring Angling Artifacts to life. Lorne—the tackle expert—writes the detailed item descriptions, assigns SKU numbers, and prices each piece. Yuriko handles the photography and image processing, capturing the beauty and character of each artifact. She photographs or scans the items, then imports the images into Photoshop to make any needed adjustments before uploading them to the online store. Their combined efforts ensure that every item is presented with care, accuracy, and appreciation for its history.

Have questions or just want to connect?  We’d love to hear from you.
